Cyprus Bass Fishing Championship 2025

The Cyprus Freshwater Angling Association announces the 2025 Bass Fishing Championship.

Registered members who have settled their financial obligations with the Association prior Championship registration date are eligible to participate. New members will also be eligible to participate.

Junior members of the Association who wish to participate in the Juniors Championship must be accompanied by their parent / guardian throughout the competition.

All participants must have a valid Fishing License issued by the Cyprus Fisheries Department.

Championship Details:

Stage One – Two Day competition

  • Day 1: 22/03/2025 Saturday – Evretou Dam – Afternoon Competition
  • Day 2: 23/03/2025 Sunday – Kannaviou Dam – Afternoon Competition

  • The times of each Stage will be announced 3 weeks before.
  • Stage Three, Four and Five Dam* location shall be Confirmed after the completion of the previous Stage.
  • Changes to any competition dams will be made if the committee determines that the water level of the dam does not allow the competition to be held.
  • Alternative choice dams in the case of change will be between the Dipotamos, Germasogeia, Lefkara and Tamasos dams

 

Regulations

Article 1 – Entries for Championship & Juniors Championship:

  1. The cost for Participation in the Championship for members is 50 euros per contestant (for those who do not participate in the Championship the cost will be 15 euros for a per competition stage)
  2. The cost of Participation in the Juniors Championship (12 years – 18 years) will be 25 euros per contestant (Juniors who do not participate in the Championship, the cost of participation per stage will be 10 euro)
  3. The Championship & Juniors Championship includes:
    • Six competitions (Stages)(one of which will be a two-day stage)
    • Duration of each competition: 7 hours.
  4. For a valid participation in the Championship the contestants must settle the registration fee prior the first stage of the Championship. The last day of registration for the Championship is the 15th of March 2025. Members who choose to register and participate in the Championship starting from the second competition are required to pay the registration fee up to one week before the second stage (until 14/04/2025).
  5. After the last registration day for the Championship this being 14/04/2025, new entries will be accepted for individual competitions only. The results of the anglers who will compete in individual competitions, will not be taken in account for the Championship standing.
  6. The winners in each competition will be the top three anglers with the highest scores, as well as the angler with the biggest fish.
  7. At the end of the Championship the anglers that will be awarded are:
    • The top three anglers of the Championship.
    • The top three anglers of the Junior Championship.
    • The biggest fish of the Championship.

Article 2 – Competitions:

  1. The last day of training and confirmation of participation will be the last Sunday before each competition.
  2. Anglers must be at the starting point at least thirty minutes before the competition starts to arrange the start-up procedures (registration, assignment of numbers, etc.).
  3. Anglers arriving at the starting points in less than thirty minutes before the start of the competition, will settle their registration procedures after the rest of the anglers have started the competition. In case an angler knows in advance that he/ she will be late, he / she must notify the Chief Judge of the competition or a member the Committee by 21:00 of previous night of the competition by 21:00 at the latest. (Except in the case of emergency).
  4. When there are 2 or more starting points in a competition, the angler has to select the starting point by notifying the Chief Judge by 21:00 on last Monday before the competition the latest. If an angler fails to state his starting point, then he will automatically be placed at the starting point with the fewest anglers. If there is an equal number of contestants at each point, then their starting point will be decided by draw. Anglers are entitled to finish at a different starting point from the one they started from. This shall be declared to the Judge before or during the competition.
  5. Fishing is allowed only from the shore. Fishing in the water by any means is prohibited. Fishing will be permitted throughout the whole water dam except the areas that are prohibited under the fishing license or by the organizers.
  6. Any movement of any angler by car or other means of transport after starting the competition is prohibited. For this reason, the Association emphasizes that anglers should wear appropriate clothing and shoes. It is advisable not to ignore the warnings of dangers due to rough terrain, high vegetation, snakes, etc. The Association will NOT be liable for any accident or injury.
  7. The minimum distance to be maintained between contestants will be 10 meters in a STRAIGHT line.

        – Please consider that we fish in the spirit of good sportsmanship and respect our fellow competitors.

Article 3 – Camera / Ruler & Numbers:

  1. All anglers must have a high-resolution camera telephone with the capability to transfer the photographic material to a committee’s device and or to a specified application. These can/will be used for the purpose of Championship archive and or the Championship’s website or other Championship social media sites.
  2. Anglers are required to upload photos of each competition within 1 hour after the end of the competition to a specified application, so as in case of any contest of the competition results these can be properly reviewed and ruled on. (See Article 5 paragraph 5)
  3. If an angler fails to submit his / her photos within the above specified time period, his/her result for the particular competition stage will not be counted towards his/her overall Championship standing.
  4. An angler competing for the first time must purchase the approved measuring ruler from the Association. The cost of the approved ruler is at 10 euro.
  5. At each competition stage, all anglers will be given by the judge a set of printed catch numbers and an eight-digit number. The eight-digit number will be unique to each competition stage. The numbers must be returned to the Judge at the end of each competition stage. In case the numbers are lost, the angler shall bare the cost for their replacement.
  6. Each photo to be valid must show the fish on the ruler with with the corresponding printed catch number and the eight-digit number. Fish photos submitted without athlete numbers and or the eight-digit number will not count towards the catch total.

Article 4 – Points:

  1. Point system: See Annex 1. The anglers’ final championship score will be by adding the 5 competitions in which he/she has scored the highest points. The competition in which the angler has received his lowest score will be taken into consideration.
  2. For every measurable centimetre the angler will receive 1 point.
    • If it’s equal to or greater than 40cm it is awarded an additional 10 bonus points.
    • If it’s equal to or greater than 45cm it is awarded an additional 20 bonus points.
    • If it’s equal to or greater than 50cm it is awarded an additional 30 bonus points.
    • If it’s equal to or greater than 55cm it is awarded an additional 40 bonus points.
    • The angler with the Biggest Fish of each stage it is awarded an additional 10 bonus points towards his/her Championship points. (In the case where the biggest fish in a competition stage is more than one with the same length in centimetres then the points are divided equally among the drawn athletes)
    • All anglers who participated in more than 50% of the Stage will be automatically awarded with 5 Points for participation, in the championship standings.
    • The championship winner will be the angler with the most points.
  3. In the case of a tie in a competition stage, the ranking of the stage will be determined after comparing:
    • Higher in the standings will be the angler with the biggest fish.
    • In case of a continuing tie, then the athlete with the second biggest fish or 3rd, or 4th, or 5th is progressively taken into account until there is a difference.
    • Although in case there is a tie, the position in which 2 or more participants tied is shared equal.

    4.In case of a tie between two or more anglers at the end of the Championship standings the winner will be determined after considering the following and in this order:

    • The points of all the fish of the angler’s fishes. The angler who has the most centimetres in total gets the higher position in the standings for the win.
    • In case there is continuing tie, then the angler with the biggest fish surpasses and is awarded the higher position in the standings for the win.
    • If another tie follows then the angler with the second largest fish and so on for the 3rd, 4th, 5th, until there is a difference, to determine the winner.

    5. Only fish of the ‘Largemouth Bass’ species shall count. The minimum size is 30cm, measured from the tip of the mouth to the longest end of the tail. During measurement the fish must have a closed mouth.

   6. For every competition stage, only the five largest bass from the total of the angler’s catch will be counted. For the two-day competition, the five largest bass will be counted from the two days. (if one contestant attends only one day, the fish of that day will apply for both days).

 

Article 5 – Penalties

Incorrect placement of the fish on the ruler may result in a penalty of -1 to -3 points, or even cancellation of the fish.

The imposition of the corresponding penalty is at the discretion of the head judge.

  1. At the end of the competition any contestant arriving late at the finishing/starting point, will be disqualified for the competition. This rule will not apply if the delay was due to situations beyond the control of the angler (injury, unanticipated flooding or fire blocking normal access paths etc.). The Chief Judge and the Championship Committee will decide together in this matter whether the angler’s delay is accepted.
  2. In the case of any violation of regulations from any angler, he / she will be disqualified for the specific competition stage and will also be receive a penalty of 100 points in his championship standing. (From his individual points, if he /she has less than 100 points, he / she will receive a negative score). In case of a serious violation, the Chief Judge will be required to bring the misconduct allegation to the Championship Committee who will decide on the penalty to be imposed. The penalty may be a recommendation to the Council to remove the angler from the Association.
  3. Any withdrawal during the competition stage without returning to the start point and returning the issued numbers (unless there is a serious problem) will lead to disqualification for the competition stage. If an angler knows in advance that he / she must leave before the end of the stage, he / she must notify the Chief Judge or the Championship Committee no later than the start of the competition stage.
  4. Fish should be photographed on the ruler correctly and returned into the water alive. If a fish dies, then the angler will incur a penalty of 20 points.
  5. Any objections by a contestant in regard to the size of the fish and or rules of the competition, should be addressed to the Chief Judgeno later than 48 hours after the end of the competition stage. The judge will review his decision and ruling. If this involves any offence this will be addressed by the Competition Committee (see Article 3 paragraph 2).

Article 6 – Rods & Baits:

  1. There is no limit to the number of rods that each angler will bring with him, but they must use only one at a time.
  2. Only Spinning / Baitcasting rods are allowed during the competition.
  3. Anglers will only be allowed to fish with artificial lures.
  4. The use of the Alabama rig is prohibited.

Article 7 – Cancelation / Postponement of the competition:

  1. Any competition stage of the Championship may be cancelled or postponed by the Championship Committee or the Chief Judge if the event if the conditions or events which risk the angler’s safety. The decision of postponement and or cancellation of a competition stage before these starts will be made by the Championship Committee. The decision of postponement or cancellation during the competition stage will be made by the Chief Judge.
  2. The decision period in both the case of postponement and or cancellation shall not exceed 60 minutes.
  3. In case that during the waiting period it is decided to start or restart the competition, the postponed time will be included in the total duration of the competition.
  4. If the competition stage is scheduled on Saturday and is cancelled, then the competition stage will be held the following day (Sunday). If the competition stage is scheduled for a Sunday and cancelled it will be rescheduled for the following Saturday.
  5. In case of an emergency requiring the Chief Judge to cancel during the course of the competition stage the following shall apply:
    • If a competition stage is cancelled after the completion of 4 hours after the start, this competition stage shall be considered as completed.
    • If a competition stage cancelled prior to the completion 4 hours after the start, the competition stage shall resume from the time period of the cancellation. (See Article 6 paragraph 2)
    • All Bass caught before the competition stage cancellation shall count upon resumption of the competition stage.
    • When the competition is re-scheduled, no new participations will be accepted.
  6. In case that the two-day competition, is postponed or cancelled while the competition runs, the following will apply:
    • If on one of the days, the competition stage is postponed BEFORE the end of 4 hours then the results will be valid up to the postponed time and included to the next day results.
    • If one whole day is postponed the second day will be valid.
    • If both days are postponed and the competition runs for a total of six or more hours, the competition will be considered finished.
    • If both days are postponed for a total of less than six hours competition time, then the competition will be held next Saturday as a one-day competition. If the two-day competition is to be held in two different water dams, then the water dam would be selected by draw.

Note 1: The Competition Committee is appointed by the association’s board of directors.

Note 2: The Competition Committee reserves the right to change any of the above terms and regulations at any time during the Championship.
